A journey among castles of different periods and styles to know Berlin' history. The hunting castle (Jagdschloss Grunewald), built in honor of Gioacchino II, rises on the Grunewald lake banks. A Renaissance castle that well preserves furniture, porcelains and paintings of important artists as Rubens and Cranach. The castle Charlottenburg, in the past, summer residence of Sofia Carlotta of Hannover, is a princely castle with decorated halls and a marvellous baroque park where you can stroll and visit the Mausoleo of Queen Luisa and the Belvedere. Pfaueninsel houses, instead, a picturesque white castle that you can reach only through ferry boat. In the north part of this isle you can visit a little farm-house (Malerei) whereas in the huge park, dwelling of wonderful peacocks, there are a lot of secular oak trees. Castle Glienicke was built in Italian style in honor of Charles of Prussia. The castle is surrounded by a lush park with two fountains: Lions Fountain (Löwenfontäne) and Dairy-maid Fountain (Milchmädchen). From Glienicke Casinò hall, inside the park, you can admire the marvellous landscape of Havel river. Köpenick Castle built on three floors is enclosed in an English park. The castle houses the Museum of Applied Arts, which preserves furniture and objects dating back to Renaissance, Baroque and Rococò period. Jaques Vaillant frescoes and Giovanni Caroveri stuccoes are worthy of note.
